The company has always been environmentally aware, and has been recycling waste and donating unwanted plants to local charities for some time. However if wanted to introduce firm but clear enironmental guidelines to the company and fully understand how to achieve on-going compliance with all relevant environmental legal requirements.

One major change the company has introduced is to drastically reduce the size of its fleet and, by doing so, has managed to reduce its CO2 emissions by over 80% per annum. This was done by reducing the number of vehicles used for its maintenance service in central London. It also aims to replace all essential vehicles with electric, LPG (Liquefied petroleum gas) or hydrogen-powered vehicles.

Ian Drummond, Creative Director at Indoor Garden Design, said "The whole company is very proud of being awarded this accreditiation as we are totally committed to being as environmentally friendly as possible".

Ian also recently joined the Committee for eFig (the Federation of Interior Landscape Groups), for which he hopes to promote the benefits of gaining the accreditation with "Green Mark" and feels it ties in with the 'Plants for People' campaign promoting the health benefits of plants in the workplace, and how plants can reduce 'sick building syndrome' by absorbing toxins and cleaning the air.

The 'Green Mark' accreditation follows Indoor Garden Design's successes in 2006, adding to the dozens of awards on show at the company headquarters in Highgate, north London.

The year began with Ed Wolf (pictured below), founder director or the company, being elected an Honorary Fellow of the Kew Guild, 'in recognition of distinguished services in the general advancement of horticulture and the botanical sciences'.

Indoor Garden Design also won a staggering seven eFIG awards, including Best Technician for the second year running; four BALI awards including Principle Award and the Worshipful Company of Gardeners? Miller Tropy for Best Street Planting for the Corporation of London.

Indoor Garden Design is launching two services: 'In Bloom' and 'Outdoors'.

IN BLOOM
A refreshing approach and cost effective alternative to front-of-house floristry, this department of Indoor Garden Design provides inspiring and originally presented flowering plant displays using orchids, seasonal plants and herbs created by their floral designers, in a range of unusual designs from contemporary to classic.

This also demonstrates a more sustainable approach than the weekly deliveries of cut flowers.

OUTDOORS
Exterior commissions have become an increasing element of Indoor Garden Design?s portfolio, with contracts ranging in size and scope, from concept and design through to installation and maintenance ? all by a dedicated ?outdoors? team.

This company is now able to provide a one-stop solution for both interior and exterior requirements.

IGD are also increasing their use of UK nurseries as part of their aim to decrease their general carbon footprint.

Appointments can be made to meet with the team at the Indoor Garden Design studio and nursery in Highgate, to discuss any planting requirements.
